Students of Arab Minch University still on protest

ESAT News May 15,2013 The students of Arba Minch University, Gamo Campus, Southern Ethiopia have been protesting since on May 14, 2013. The students were loudly chanting “respect our rights, listen to our voices, answer our questions and working in cobblestones after studies”.
Federal Police officers have occupied the campus and also prevented students from intermingling one another.
A member of the University’s staff said to ESAT that although the students started their protest due to the contamination of their Cafeteria food, their protest expanded to include questions on quality of education and administration.
Nine students have been detained so far.
ESAT has not been able to talk to students that have been harassed or assaulted.
Standing on the windows of their dormitories, students have been loudly shouting that they won’t resume class until their queries have been fully answered.
ESAT’s efforts to speak to the University administration were unsuccessful.
