JEDDAH – Less than 48 hours after the Riyadh clashes in which three people were killed and 68 injured, two groups of illegals got involved in a brutal brawl in Jeddah’s Al-Aziziya neighborhood early Monday.
Police rushed to the scene and broke up the brawl between Ethiopians and Chadians and arrested 57 people.
The brawl left residents panicky as those involved in fighting started damaging private property. More than 14 cars were damaged during the violence.
Head of Jeddah Police Gen. Abdullah Al-Qahtani sent a large police contingent to the neighborhood to arrest the violators and maintain peace. Some residents tried to stop the brawl thus creating hindrance in security operation.
Ahmad Bamufleh, a local resident, said when people interfere in the work of police they put their lives in danger and hinder the work of security forces.
He said only police officers are properly trained to deal with such situations.
Saeed Al-Zahrani, another resident, said citizens and expats should play their role in society when they notice criminal activities and only contact the authorities and leave them to do the job.
Jeddah Police spokesman Nawaf Al-Bouq said that in the early hours of Monday the force’s control room received reports of a huge fight between Ethiopians and Chadians.
